How Do I Clean Windows with a Water Fed Pole?

Water fed poles (WFPs) have many advantages over traditional window cleaning methods like a wash sleeve or Squeegee. However, it takes some time and practice to be able to clean effectively with a WFP. There are many WFP cleaning techniques, but this is the most popular. You can tweak the water-fed pole cleaning technique as you gain experience to find out what works for you.

How To Wash Windows With A Water Fed Pole

1. Start by brushing up the top of your glass with the water flowing from your water purification device. Here is where contaminants and dirt tend to accumulate the most. Then, scrub back and forth a few more times along the top portion. You should clean the sills of your windows now if you plan to. You’ll get drips from the window sill back onto the glass if you don’t.

2. Continue to scrub the remainder of the glass with the water-fed pole brush, but leave the top 2 or 3 inches alone. Start at the bottom of the glass and brush upwards, allowing the water to drip from the top.

3. Rinse. The secret to a successful rinse is to ensure that only the purified water touches the glass. Not your brush. You want to create a water curtain that flows down from the top. Then, use your water jets to follow the curtain down. Rinse side to side. Only rinse about 2-foot-wide strips at a given time.

Rinsing On Or Off The Glass?

You should apply pressure to the pole when scrubbing the windows. This will spread the bristles of the brushes for a better scrub and ensure that you get into all the crevices and cracks. When rinsing the window, remove all pressure from the brush. You can barely place a nylon or hybrid bristled brush on the glass when rinsing. The water will collect in the bristles of the brush and you’ll get a better wash by reducing the splatter that can leave tiny dots on your glass.

As you build a little head of water at the top, quickly glide your brush down in a zig-zag pattern. While you are building a small head of purified water, slide your brush in a zigzag pattern down. Repeat with the next section.

You must remove a bristle brush from the glass. The natural fiber will hold dirt and pollutants and you won’t get a good rinse if it’s left on the glass.

It is harder to control your pole as the window increases in height. We recommend using 100% boar’s-hair brushes only on windows no higher than 3 storeys.

What About Window Frames?

You can decide whether or not to clean your window frames, but it is important to make a decision in advance. If you want to avoid dirt leaking onto the glass, you must clean the window frames thoroughly. If not, you can leave them be. The first time you clean the frames, it will take more time. Subsequent cleanings are easier, especially when using a Water Fed Window Cleaning Pole.

What About Difficult To Remove Items?

Some contaminants and stains may be difficult for a water-fed pole to remove. It is especially true for new construction cleaning projects that include fresh paint, plaster, and concrete. A scraper will be needed to remove these materials, but some products like the full clean centre can help. Hard water stains, bird droppings, stickers and caterpillar or snail trails are all problems. It’s better to pass on these jobs if you don’t have the right equipment or skills to do them.
